The Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Training Unit provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities that allows Texas State Troopers to remain the best in the nation. A Trooper must be educated, competent, and capable of handling every situation. A Trooper must be a problem-solver, a critical thinker, and must work independently. The goal of the Trooper Training Unit is to put Trooper Trainees through a rigorous program dedicated to the core values of the Department: Integrity, Excellence, Accountability, and Teamwork.
The TTU utilizes a collaborative effort from other units within ETR as resources to help train and expose trooper trainees to real world topics and scenarios. This is paramount to forming a firm foundation of learning within a basic peace officer training academy for all trooper trainees prior to deploying to the field training phase.
There are four main categories in the Trooper Training program: academics, motor skills, critical thinking and decision making. Each category sets forth objectives and standards of performance that must be met in order to demonstrate proficiency. Strict adherence to these standards are crucial to ensure that the graduate is fully capable of having a successful career and is an asset to the citizens of the State of Texas.
