The 88th Texas Legislature enacted the Terrorist Offender Registration Program via Senate Bill 1518, which creates Chapter 65 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. This initiative aims to enhance public safety and ensure effective monitoring of individuals with terrorism-related convictions or adjudications in Texas on or after Jan 1, 2024.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), through its Crime Records Division, will serve as the administrator for the Registry. DPS will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on individuals who have been convicted or adjudicated of terrorist offenses. This approach will enable better coordination and more efficient information sharing among various law enforcement agencies to safeguard our communities.
Local law enforcement agencies play a vital role in monitoring and registering these offenders to uphold public safety.
