Already frustrated that I was being pulled over, I was prepared to reflect whatever pompous attitude I received. The demeanor of Trooper Smith was unlike any I had ever experienced. His level of professionalism and cordiality completed deescalated the situation. Trooper Smith singlehandedly gave me a new spark of hope in uniformed officers. Again, he handled the situation better than any other interaction with a uniformed officer I had ever had, and not in a way that displayed vulnerability, but one that displayed mutual respect. It was appreciated and did not go unnoticed. If more of your troopers handled situations like Trooper Smith, I feel you would see a much different attitude toward the DPS.
