Valerie De Arcos

April 26, 2021

I visited the North Austin office and got there right as it opened for a walk-in appointment. I moved to TX in February and needed to get a new license. I had brought what I thought were the correct documents to prove residency and my SSN, only to find out that my landlord had never actually signed the lease so it was not valid and that my W- 2 had all but the last four digits of my SSN blocked. My old license from CA was set to expire and so if I did not get my TX license by then I would need to start the licensing process from scratch. Rather than just tell me I didn't have the documentation and sending me on my way, Valerie was patient and helped me figure out what alternative documents could work. My recent arrival meant that I did not have bank statements with the correct address yet, the car I had purchased did not have the official form approved for car purchases to count towards residency. Eventually she figured out that I could go to my bank and have them provide a deposit slip that would serve as a second proof of residency. I have had many a terrible experience at a DMV, but my experience with Valerie was a pleasant surprise. I really appreciated her sympathy and willingness to work with me to solve the problem so I wanted to pass the praise along.
