Trooper Michael Mathes

November 19, 2020

I am writing to show appreciation and acknowledgement to the level of professionalism and genuine kindness shown during a traffic stop. The approach to my truck was cautious, as he should be but also Trooper Mathes’ demeanor was calm and collected and very non-threatening, 100% opposite from what I am accustomed. I feel as though this is important to write and share with you and your superiors. In this socially and politically challenging climate, law enforcement sometimes gets so much bad publicity because of actions of the minority, it takes precedence from the good that the majority accomplishes. Being an African American man and getting stopped by a white officer has always been a stressful situation even though I personally have never had an issue, however the underlying stress was always there. I at 52 years old just had my FIRST officer to civilian experience where I did not feel that stress. Trooper Mathes I salute you! Please keep being the type of person you are, stay safe and vigilant out there. Thank you sir for your service.
