Leadership: What is it?
The most basic definition of leadership is “influence.” Everyone has influence, which leads us to ask every member about how they are using that influence. It is an influence that can help others, improve teams, create new opportunities, and much more.
The Texas DPS has defined leadership as "the ability to motivate and inspire others; to develop and mentor others; to gain the respect, confidence, and loyalty of others; to articulate a vision, to give guidance and to direct others in accomplishing goals." Therefore, leadership development is not only encouraged but expected for all members of the Department.
