LAREDO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has seized 346 pounds of marijuana, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Starr County during Operation Lone Star.
On May 23, 2021, at approximately 6:50 p.m., the Trooper observed a white Chevy SUV traveling south from U.S. 83 in Rio Grande City fail to yield the right-of-way, narrowly avoiding a collision. The Trooper attempted to stop the driver for that traffic violation when the driver stopped near a gate. The driver and approximately 10 men tossed large bundles from inside the vehicle over the gate and then took off into the brush. Troopers recovered 16 plastic-wrapped bundles containing marijuana.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $103,800. At this time no arrests have been made in this case.
