I visited the Driver License office facility at 12220 S. Gessner Rd in Houston, TX. In the past, I have dreaded renewing my license as it is usually time-consuming and painful. It was the exact opposite. I was greeted by someone at the front door who checked my appointment time and put a wristband on me. They escorted me to a check-in kiosk. I quickly and easily found my appointment. I then proceeded to the counter, where I was quickly guided to grab a renewal form and have a seat. As soon as I hit the seat, I heard my number called over the intercom. I was very surprised and asked someone standing in the hallway if this was right. She kindly said, sure, go back, and they'll take care of you. I arrived at the desk and was warmly greeted by Chere Bennett. She was smiling and very nicely asked if I was here for a renewal. I replied yes, and she guided me on how to quickly fill out the form. She then quickly processed my form and asked me to stand and take a picture. When she took my picture, she commented on how good the picture looked and how much better it was than my current one. She turned the monitor to show me, and we both had a chuckle. I paid, and she handed me a receipt, and I was on my way. I stood up almost confused at how wonderful of an experience I had at the DPS. From the time I stepped into the front door from the time I walked out, it was literally 9 minutes. I never thought I would say this about an experience at the DPS, but it was one of the best I've had in any customer-related transaction. Whoever is responsible for the process and each individual that carried it out should be very proud.
