Recently, I accompanied my father to our DPS office in New Braunfels in order to assist him in renewing his driver license. My father has held his commercial driver license for many decades, and was a truck driver for over 50 years up until a few years ago. He was forced to retire when a major surgical error rendered him too sick and weak to work; it has been devastating for him, because he loved being a driver. When we came into your office, my dad was expecting to have to give up his commercial license completely; since it was time to renew and he wasn’t physically capable of driving commercially yet. Thankfully, we were assigned to Rose’s desk. Rose and Denise were able to help my dad put his commercial license on hold without allowing it to lapse, which would have forced him to start over. They preserved his dignity and gave him hope by the way they treated him and by going out of their way to help him. I have seen my father go through so much suffering and hardship because of someone else’s negligence. To see the kindness and respect that these two public servants showed him has been indescribably touching and so much appreciated. Thank you for taking care of our community and for seeing us all as individuals, with our own set of circumstances, who are worthy of your time, attention, and kindness.
