Trooper Roy Dan Bristow

December 4, 2020

I was on the Mopac Expressway (State Highway Loop 1) driving home from classes at seminary in the early evening of November 12, 2019, when my vehicle lost battery power. I was effectively stranded on the road. Very shortly thereafter, Trooper Dan Bristow arrived on the scene. He assessed the situation quickly, helped me find the mechanism to shift my vehicle into the neutral gear, pushed my car out of the roadway and onto the grass, offered me a warm place to sit in his car while we waited for the tow truck (it was 40 degrees that night), made sure my vehicle was secured to the tow truck and saw me on my way to my vehicle's dealership for further assistance. Trooper Bristow said that he was on his way back from training that day, so I don't know if Mopac Expressway was part of his usual route, but I thank God that he stopped and didn't just drive by. As an African American, I am very aware that interactions between African Americans and Texas State Troopers haven't always been positive. However, Trooper Bristow exemplified the Texas Department of Safety motto of "courtesy, service and protection." I am glad he was there to help me. He served TxDPS well that cold night.
