2015 DPS Tactical Training Center Administration Building Officially Open in Florence

August 25, 2015

AUSTIN – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw today was joined by Texas State Rep. Tony Dale, the Texas Public Safety Commission, current and former DPS leadership, and local officials and law enforcement for a grand opening ceremony at the new DPS Tactical Training Center administration building in Florence.

“It is imperative that every commissioned officer has the utmost competence and confidence, which can only be achieved through vigilant training,” said Director McCraw. “This state-of-the art building significantly increases the space and technological capabilities for such training, and we look forward to many years of exemplary instruction and law enforcement collaboration here at this facility.”

The more than 30,000-square-foot building serves as the administrative and operational center for the DPS Tactical Training Center and will house personnel assigned to the Emergency Vehicle Operations Center. Featuring 14 individual offices and four classrooms for training and instruction, the facility can accommodate as many as 275 students at one time.

In addition to serving DPS recruits, troopers, special agents, Texas Rangers and DPS non-commissioned personnel, the new administration building will also be used for inter-agency training programs with local, state and federal law enforcement partners.
