AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today graduated 27 employees from the first DPS Command College class, a four-month management-level training course designed to advance the science of law enforcement and support leadership development within the agency.
“DPS depends on a legion of leaders at every level of this organization who create the vision, support the strategies and serve as innovators in moving the agency forward in its mission to serve and protect the state of Texas,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “This new Command College program is integral to our continued commitment to cultivating proficient and inspirational leaders.”
The intensive DPS Command College curriculum covers principles of leadership, ethics, communication, fitness and wellness. Graduates of the course completed approximately 600 hours of coursework and instruction on a variety of topics, including organizational management; effective communications and conflict resolution; and executive-level strategic planning.
“As a graduate here today, you have proven your dedication to developing your leadership skills, which will in turn have a profound impact on the people you work with; the community you protect; the customers you serve; and potentially, everyone in your life,” said Director McCraw.
