Statement by DPS Director McCraw on Death Of Harris County Deputy

September 3, 2015

AUSTIN – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw today issued the following statement after attending the funeral of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth, who was killed in the line of duty on August 28:

“Today we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth and the entire Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

“DPS considers an attack on a public servant to be an attack on all Texans. This is a stark reminder that law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to protect the communities they serve, and we condemn the cowardly attack that resulted in Deputy Goforth’s death.

“Deputy Goforth’s service and sacrifice will always be remembered. DPS officers across the state observed one minute of radio silence and joined other Texas peace officers in activating emergency lights in his honor – and to show solidarity with the law enforcement community.”
