AUSTIN – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw today issued the following statement regarding the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:
“Fourteen years ago, this nation witnessed the senseless and cowardly terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. We will always remember those who lost their lives that day, and their beloved families and friends remain in our thoughts and prayers. We also pay tribute to the selfless first responders who put their own lives on the line to protect and help others, and the courageous members of the United States Military at home and overseas, who work to protect this country every single day.
“This anniversary is a stark reminder that terrorists and criminals exist who wish to harm communities, target critical infrastructures and destroy our way of life. Because this state faces the full spectrum of manmade and natural threats, we urge Texans to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or criminal activities they notice. DPS and our law enforcement brethren work around-the-clock to help ensure public safety and protect homeland security.”
Preparations for terrorist attacks are often seen but rarely reported. Texans who see something unusual are urged to speak up. When in doubt, report suspicious activity to a local law enforcement agency (by calling 9-1-1) or through iWATCH, which is a DPS website where citizen-sourced information is collected in an effort to help thwart illegal endeavors.
