LAREDO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than 290 pounds of Marihuana during a traffic stop on Monday, April 20, in La Salle County.
At approximately 11:57 pm, a DPS trooper was notified by DPS Communications that a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer had disregarded the US Border Patrol Checkpoint located at the 29 mile marker of Interstate Highway 35. The trooper was able to locate the truck tractor and attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a traffic violation at IH-35 mile maker 45; however, the truck tractor started to evade until it stopped at the 63 mile marker on the frontage road. The driver fled on foot and absconded into the brush. After securing the truck tractor, a vehicle search revealed eight plastic–wrapped bundles of Marihuana concealed inside the sleeper berth area of the truck tractor. The Marihuana had an estimated street value of $67,608.
The driver, Christopher Sedrick Brown, 46, was later found walking aside the interstate by DPS Criminal Investigation Division. Brown was positively identified by US Border Patrol as the driver. Brown was charged with felony possession of Marihuana and evading arrest with a motor vehicle, and booked into the La Salle County Jail. DPS Criminal Investigation Division is further investigating this case.
