HOUSTON – The Houston East Driver License Office, which has been closed since sustaining major flood damage during Hurricane Harvey last year, reopened for business Monday, Oct. 8, 2018. The office (located at 11039 East Freeway #B, Houston, TX 77029) is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Tuesdays when the office is open until 6 p.m.
The newly remodeled office now has two additional workstations, bringing the total to eight. In the short term, no drive tests will be conducted at the office. For additional information about hours and locations of DL Offices near you, please visit the DPS website.
We continue to remind Texans that the majority of customers who come into Texas driver license offices don't have to. These customers can actually conduct their transaction online (Texas.gov), by phone or by mail. Prior to coming to the office, call 1-866-DL-RENEW (1-866-357-3639) or check online to determine if your transaction – whether the renewal of a Texas DL or identification (ID) card or an address change – can actually be handled online, by phone or by mail. By doing so, eligible customers can skip the trip to a DL office and, in turn, decrease transaction times for customers required to go into an office. The eligibility requirements for phone renewal and online renewal are the same. The fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Customers may renew their Texas driver license/ID card up to two years prior to their current card's expiration date, which allows them to choose a convenient time that fits their schedule if an office visit is required. The original expiration date will remain the same, even if you renew early.
