ABILENE – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than $388,000 in cash Saturday, February 2, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped to assist a stranded motorist in Nolan County.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped to assist the driver of a 2007 Dodge pickup that was parked on I-20. A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department canine unit responded to assist after the Trooper suspected criminal activities. The canine alerted on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle revealed numerous bundles of cash concealed inside the tool box.
DPS Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation.
The driver – Ramon Arreola, 52, of El Paso – was arrested and charged with money laundering. Arreola was transported and booked into the Nolan County jail.
