Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick

Highway Patrol Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick, 36, lost control of his patrol unit while responding to an accident south of Hereford at 11 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2006. He was traveling westbound on FM 1259 inside the Hereford city limits. As he passed through the intersection of FM 1259 and Main Street, he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway and into the south ditch of FM 1259. Trooper Myrick died at the scene. Trooper Myrick, who was stationed in Hereford, had been with the DPS since 2003. He is the 224th DPS officer killed in the line of duty.
