Michael Wayne PETTERSON, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was captured on November 27, 2024, in Dayton, Texas. Working off investigative information, DPS Special Agents, along with THP, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested PETTERSON.In 1991, PETTERSON was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of Another Person following an incident with a 17-year-old female. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 years confinement. In 2003, PETTERSON was convicted of Harassment. In 2008, PETTERSON was convicted of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements and subsequently sentenced to 5 years’ probation. In 2014, he was convicted of Assault of a Family/Household Member by Impeding Breath/Circulation and subsequently sentenced to 5 years’ probation.On November 7, 2023, a warrant was issued out of San Augustine County for PETTERSON’s arrest for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements.PETTERSON’s arrest was not from tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, so no reward will be paid.
