Vehicle Safety Inspection Changes Take Effect January 2025
Changes to the state’s Vehicle Safety Inspection Program will eliminate most vehicle safety inspections beginning on Jan. 1, 2025. Texans whose vehicles are registered in emissions counties will still be required to have emissions tests.

DPS Welcomes 130 New Troopers to Texas Highway Patrol
AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today welcomed 130 new Texas Highway Patrol Troopers from recruit Class B-2024 during a graduation ceremony at Shoreline Church in Austin. The graduating class was joined by DPS personnel and members of the Public Safety Commission including Chairman Steven P. Mach, and Commissioners Nelda Blair, Dan Hord III, Larry Long and Steve Stodghill.

Driver License/ID Services
The Department issues driver licenses valid for up to eight years to Texas residents 18 years of age and older. Most driver licenses and identification cards can be renewed up to two years before and after the expiration date. You have several convenient options to renew your Texas driver license or identification card during this time, including online, telephone, mail, or in person at your local driver license office. In Texas, your address on a driver license or ID card must be changed within 30 days after moving to your new residence. There are three ways you can request a replacement driver license and change your address: online, mail-in, and in person.
